Yesterday I received an email from The Couponizer Company. Thier site has been copied by a scammer.
Here is the email I received from the owner, Amy Bergin.
Counterfeit Couponizer website found
Sadly at a time when our business is growing, cyber criminals have taken notice. Seems the tough economy has them turning to coupons also, only for the wrong reasons!Basically, a malware campaign that sends spam e-mails directs consumers to print local coupons off what looks like our website but it most certainly is NOT. By clicking on the links in the spam e-mail and on the counterfeit website your system becomes infected. Once infected, the malware can do several things to the unsuspecting user's system, including use it to send out other spam or install a keylogger that could result in data loss or identity theft. This same situation has happened to PayPal and Bank of America to name a few. If you receive one of these phishing emails, do not click through. Gary Warner, Director of Computer Forensics at the University of Alabama called me to alert me to this situation. His students discovered the campaign. What is frustrating is the fact that there is nothing we could have done to prevent this. The worst part is that people may be harmed by this and think that we are the cause. Please visit his blog that descibe this situation in more detail: http://garwarner.blogspot.com/2009/02/money-tight-watch-out-for-coupon-offers.html Our website has not been compromised in any way, you may download coupons and buy product from us with confidence as we are PCI Compliant and take the security of personal data very seriously. This crime has been reported to the FBI through the Internet Crime Complaint Center. Over the next few days as we learn more, if needed we will communicate further information to you.
Thank you for your continued support,Amy BerginWife, Mother and President, The Couponizer Companyhttp://www.thecouponizer.com/
